toro

toro is a study in the brutalist microarchitecture of a chair. monolithic in character, the back structure and its cantilevered arms connect to the seat block and its two legs.

toro was molded in quickcrete 5000 (concrete) with a semi-polished surface. pink foam inserts were used to limit the weight of the concrete. full-size study models were constructed in foamcore and then painted (yellow/white and black). the speculative project continues cia’s exploration at the intersection of art, furniture, and architecture.
